Ahhh summer is here. Summer is my favorite month but it can really wreak havoc on our skin. Try some of these tips to keep cool, keep protected and keep your makeup in place.
Protection is key. Trying to find a good sunscreen can be daunting. Some make you break out, some are greasy, some smell bad and they aren’t that cheap! Here is a list of sunscreens recommended by The Environmental Working Group:
Sunscreen to Use and Those to Avoid
Sun Bum $16 is available at Bed Bath and Beyond so you can use your coupons. I use this on my body in the morning and take with me if I’ll be outdoors a lot.
I know many who break out when using sunscreen on their face and have given up trying to find one. I have been using Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense for a few weeks and have been breakout free! You can find that here for $38. Don’t forget the lips! Keep a lip balm with SPF in your bag.
Makeup tends to feel heavier in the summer so reach for a tinted BB Cream with SPF. There are so many out there to try but I can recommend Smashbox Camera Ready $39 and Coola Mineral Face Tint $36. Both available at Sephora. Check out all of their BB and CC creams available here!
Another great product by Coola is their makeup setting spray with SPF. This is good to use for summer events when you’re wearing makeup but can’t necessarily keep reapplying sunscreen all day. Buy here for $36!
If you will be needing makeup and worried about melting, try using waterproof or water resistant colors. A great drugstore buy is Maybelline Unstoppable Smudge Proof Eyeliner. Another drugstore go-to is Covergirl Lashblast Clump Crusher Mascara which is water resistant. Finding a long wearing melt proof eye color can be tough. Try using the makeup you have but combining it with a primer, set powder and set spray. Since melting makeup can be a a longer subject, a Melt Free Makeup Post will come soon!
If you’ve been outside all day and find your skin to be tender, burnt, greasy or to dry after washing, try these!
The Body Shop Face Spritzers $19 – These can be a refreshing mist on hot days. Try leaving one in the fridge!
For tender skin, I use gel moisturizers. A long time favorite has been the Mary Kay Hydrating Gel $32 and the Soothing Eye Gel $16. Also refreshing the the fridge!
